Three of the leading academics in the field recently combined to produce a guide for senior managers and staff developers on Improving library and information services through self-assessment. The book of this title[20] is accompanied by a separately published (and expensive) training pack and tool kit[21] containing "all the necessary documents for developing a training programme and undertaking a self-assessment within a public information and library service."

One of the starting points for this work is the increasingly fashionable Business Excellence Model.
